Maps & sites

Hofstaetter-Maps-of-the-sitesWords can describe the characteristics of an individual site up to a point. However, the topographical features of a vineyard can only be grasped at a glance when they are portrayed visually. For this reason we engaged a cartographer to map out the sites belonging to the Hofstätter estates with their geographical characteristics.

The maps show how the vineyards differ from one another in their exposure to sun and wind, and all are strongly influenced by elevation, gradient and orientation of the individual slopes. The growth of the vines is strongly affected by the specific climatic conditions and the make-up of the soils in an individual site. When choosing the most suitable grape variety for each site the winegrower draws on his experience and expert feeling for the prevailing advantages and constraints imposed by nature.

The wine’s identity, its historical roots and its affinity with the individual wine estate are all determined by the site. The maps also reveal the distinctive features of our sites to wine-lovers who are not yet familiar with the unique vinescape on both sides of the River Adige. Those wishing to find out more can discover the sites at first hand by exploring the narrow roads marked on the maps.
