Josef Hofstätter founded the winery in Tramin in 1907. Today it embodies all the merits of Alto Adige wine country. Martin Foradori Hofstätter is the 4th generation to manage the estate.

The estate is of the largest family wineries in terms of vineyard area in Alto Adige. The vineyards are situated on the east and west side of the Adige Valley and offer optimal growing conditions for vines.

Vineyards at elevations ranging from 250 to 850 metres (820-2790 feet) in varying geological and climatic conditions enable several different grape varieties to be grown in optimally suited sites.

Our terroirs

Tenuta J. Hofstätter is the only family-operated winery in southern Alto Adige that cultivates vineyards on both sides of the Adige Valley, in southern Trentino, and in Germany’s Mosel wine region.

Local varieties

Family Foradori Hofstätter has made preserving traditions a mission. The traditional local grape varieties Gewürztraminer, Lagrein, and Schiava are cultivated.

Tenuta J. Hofstätter owns the largest Gewürztraminer and Pinot Nero vineyard area in Alto Adige: Kolbenhof and Rechtenthaler Schlossleiten in Tramin as well as Barthenau and Yngram in Mazon. Grapes grow in the very best sites at these locations.

Single-vineyard wines

Tenuta J. Hofstätter is a pioneer of the single-vineyard philosophy. Gewürztraminer from Kolbenhof and Pinot Nero from Mazon were among the first wines in Alto Adige made from historic, classified vineyard parcels.

Paolo Foradori was the first vintner in Alto Adige to label wines according to origins from specific demarcated vineyard parcels. This made him the founder of the Vigna classification.

Nature must flourish. We cultivate the art of soft pruning, fertilise with cow dung, and abstain from the use of herbicides. We promote soil vitality by sowing green cover in the vineyards.

Weingut Dr. Fischer – Hofstätter: Martin Foradori Hofstätter also lives out his pioneering spirit with his love of Riesling, He is the first Italian vintner to acquire vineyards on the Saar, the ideal terroir for this grape variety.
